For many Colorado families, fresh fruits and vegetables can be an inaccessible luxury. GreenLeaf brings fresh produce to some of these families by engaging youth in the maintenance of a local, community garden. Young people who work at the garden earn a fair wage as they grow food for the community and develop leadership skills.
Recently, GreenLeaf began its summer youth program where 10 – 20 young people will get to know each other as they work in the garden. As the summer moves on, the participants will be encouraged to take on bigger roles in the garden and even take part in major organizational decisions. By doing this, GreenLeaf aims to strengthen the community and develop future leaders, all while providing local families with fresh fruits and vegetables.
