Arts & Culture-Based Change
What does it mean?
The belief that this society is a better place to live and our communities are stronger when the creativity of any artists is prevalent in all aspects of society through creative expression. Artists and arts organizations are valued tools for community, economic, educational and cultural revitalization. Social justice issues through art and creative expression can contribute in a wide range of ways to the work of envisioning and making a more just world.
Current Grantees: Café Cultura, TEA: Theatre Esprit Asia
EXAMPLES OF CHANGE:
- 2012 – TEA is formed, the first Asian-American theatre company in Colorado.
- 2013 – Café Cultura facilitates the only family & youth-focused open mic in Denver that encourages the voices of indigenous young people.
- 2014 – TEA produces 3 new plays by 3 female, Asian-American playwrights.
