Immigrant resettlement, particularly for Somali refugees, is often a traumatizing and marginalizing process. In 1998, leaders of Somali community in Denver formed the Somali American Community Center (SACCC) to provide support to fellow refugees through the process of resettlement – working through the delicate balance of assimilating and retaining the Somali culture in a new and often overbearing environment.
By providing constituents with work-related assistance, education, and cultural events, SACCC strives to increase community awareness of the Somali population in Metro Denver as well as provide direct services to ensure self-sufficiency for Somali Americans.
