In many of the indigenous cultures of North and South America, storytelling has been used as a tool to preserve traditions, ancestry, and history for many generations. But in a world where more and more information can simply be recorded digitally, the oral tradition is practiced far less by the mainstream community. Café Cultura has been providing the community with a venue where people can express themselves creatively through poetry, storytelling, and other forms of creative writing.
Since 2004, Café Cultura has been providing families and youth with open mic nights, and creative writing workshops. Chinook has been happy to see Café Cultura grow into the organization that it is, and hopes to see them continue providing the community with this necessary form of creative expression.
